Strength in Numbers- AOPA AV8RS is born!
My team and I have been working for months to develop a youth membership —one where we can make an early connection with young people, engage them and get them excited about aviation. And, hopefully, help get them on the path to become a pilot. The result? AOPA AV8RS—The Pilots of Tomorrow officially launched at the end of July!
Much like having a child, our new membership category has been a labor of love. We researched, talked to young people, talked to some of you, our members, and then researched some more. We learned a lot from the research—about what kids want, what they don’t want, and how we can connect with them. And, we learned a lot from you.
There are a lot of great aviation programs out there for youth—and we wanted to complement those programs, because, let’s face it, getting a pilot certificate is not easy. It truly will take a village to nurture and support the next generation of pilots.
AOPA AV8RS is for students aged 13 through 18 and will provide them with ongoing experiences and resources that will involve and engage them in aviation and AOPA for years to come. The membership is offered to teens at no cost thanks to the generous contributions of AOPA members and other donations.
