Kathleen Vasconcelos—Vice President, Education and Operations, AOPA Air Safety Foundation
As vice president of education and operations for the AOPA Air Safety Foundation (ASF), Kathleen Vasconcelos oversees all of ASF’s educational outreach efforts. This includes the production of the foundation’s award-winning online courses, live safety seminars, webinars, print publications, and other safety education material for general aviation pilots. She also oversees the ASF accident database and annual Nall Report, the only comprehensive safety analysis of light general aviation aircraft (aircraft under 12,500 lbs.).
Prior to joining ASF she worked in AOPA’s Media Relations department where she communicated AOPA’s message to the media and general public.
An active pilot since 1993, Vasconcelos holds a commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multiengine ratings, and an instrument-rated flight instructor certificate. She has a degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Vasconcelos is the co-author of a joint study by the AOPA Air Safety Foundation and the FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute on the effects of human and training factors in pilot performance following aircraft instrument failure while flying in the clouds.
If you are interested in arranging an interview with Ms. Vasconcelos, please contact AOPA Media Relations at 301.695.2162 or newsroom@aopa.org.
