AOPA Foundation’s Air Safety Institute Releases Latest Online Course: ADS-B for General Aviation

Frederick, MD – The AOPA Foundation’s Air Safety Institute (ASI) has released a new interactive online course, entitled “ADS-B for General Aviation: The Basics.”

The course, developed in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration, offers a primer on the fundamentals of ADS-B and will help pilots become familiar with the technology and associated terminology. The course includes a downloadable reference guide to help pilots decide how they should implement ADS-B technology, touted as the “cornerstone of NextGen.”  

“After Jan. 1, 2020, pilots flying in airspace currently requiring a transponder will need a form of ADS-B installed in their aircraft.  With this in mind, we designed the course to provide pilots with the information that will help guide them in making important equipment decisions,” said Bob Knill, technical writer for ASI.  “Just as important, participants will also have a better understanding of what ADS-B is, where it will be required and how it can be used upon completion of the course.”
