Flying brothers fueled by passion for aviation "But mostly to see each other," said Craig, who began mentoring his brother last year in November when they joined Project Pilot at AOPA Expo in Palm Springs, California. Craig is from San Clemente, California, and has been flying since 1970. They're no strangers to flying, having grown up with a father who was in the Air Force for 28 years. Being able to continue flying is a dream come true for the Gallagher brothers. "It's nice to have someone to share in the excitement," said Les, admitting there's been some not-so-exciting moments also. That's why having a mentor is beneficial for future pilots, to help work through the challenging parts of flight training. Les received his sport pilot certificate on March 11 and bought his low-wing taildragger shortly after. Craig owns a Piper Comanche. The brothers stay in touch by e-mail, phone, and lots of trips back and forth between Michigan and California to visit friends and family. Les said he is looking forward to continuing his training, all with the guidance and support from his mentor and brother. If you're interested in becoming a mentor, stop by the AOPA Big Yellow Tent to join Project Pilot and help future pilots achieve their aviation goals. |
