This week saw our/your Twin Comanche undergoing some serious airframe and engine work. Williams Airmotive re-worked and re-skinned the airplane’s control surfaces—including the entire stabilator—and sent them to LoPresti Speed Merchants in Vero Beach, Florida. LoPresti is handling all the airframe work, as well as installing all of their speed modifications. New fuel cells from Eagle Fuel Cells have also arrived at LoPresti’s shop, and so have the reworked engine mounts and vibration isolators from Kosola and Associates.   Engine, fuel, and hydraulic hoses may not be the most glamorous of aircraft com-ponents, but they certainly are essential to safe flying. The Win-A-Twin Comanche uses oil and fuel hoses pro-vided by Precision Hose Technology. Precision Hose is a Parker-Hannifin distributor, and our/your Twinco has Stratoflex 124J hoses. These hoses have Teflon inner cores with inte-grated stainless steel wire braid, and molded silicon firesleeves. Oh, and they’re brown, not orange-colored. These hoses are good from –65 to +450 degrees Fahre-nheit, and have corrosion-proof stainless steel fittings. More  
  How about helping us pick the Twin Comanche's paint scheme? With assistance from Scheme Designers, we've narrowed the paint scheme down to three--two variations of a more classic Comanche scheme from the mid-1960s and a more contemporary scheme. For each scheme we have two color combinations, including ones using the DuPont ChromaLusion trim paint, which changes color depending on the viewing angle.

The engines are being installed in mid-February, and the airframe work is nearly completed. Then the new Hartzell Q-Tip propellers and spinners will be installed, and the reworked airplane will be checked out and taken on its first flight with the new equipment.
