USMC officer honored for war zone ground school
AOPA on Nov. 11 presented the second annual Let's Go Flying Award to U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Gabriel Glinsky for his efforts to organize and teach a ground school for his fellow unit members while on active duty in Afghanistan.

Oklahoma aeronautics director receives Hartranft Award
AOPA on Nov. 13 awarded its highest honor for government officials to Victor Bird, director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission. The Joseph B. "Doc" Hartranft Jr. Award is presented annually to an elected or appointed government official, whether federal, state, local, or foreign, who has made significant contributions to the advancement of general aviation. This year's presentation was made during a special awards program on the AOPA Live stage at AOPA Aviation Summit in Long Beach, Calif.
Bulldog gets his shirttail
For the first time in its history, AOPA trained a student pilot in its sweepstakes airplane. But not just any pilot and not just any aircraft. Marine Sgt. Michael Blair, a wounded warrior from the war in Iraq, trained for his sport pilot certificate in the 2010 Fun to Fly Remos GX light sport aircraft.

AOPA Awards Show honors GA advocates
U.S. Marine Capt. Gabriel Glinsky, a V-22 Osprey pilot who taught a civilian ground school for 20 fellow Marines during a nine-month combat tour in Afghanistan, received the AOPA's 2010 "Let's Go Flying" award Nov. 13 at AOPA Aviation Summit in Long Beach, Calif.
Pilots rock Long Beach at block party
They were dancing in the street for the first ever block party at AOPA Aviation Summit. AOPA President Craig Fuller joined a rock and roll band on the stage set up in the middle of Long Beach's celebrated Pine Avenue to launch the aviation celebration.
