U.S. Pilots Association will feature AOPA president as key speaker October 16 at USPA convention in Branson, Mo.

Under the banner “USPA Brings Boyer to Branson,” the U.S. Pilots Association convention in Branson, Missouri, October 14-17 will feature a Saturday-night keynote address by AOPA President Phil Boyer.

“The U.S. Pilots Association and the Missouri Pilots Association Annual Air Tour are pleased to bring Phil Boyer to Branson,” the associations are telling members considering the three-day event.

The AOPA president will use the occasion to premier a new presentation that appeals to pilots and their spouses alike: an examination of how men and women look differently on flying.

The program will explore the sensitivities of non-pilot spouses, bringing some humor to the evening but also sensitizing pilots to the real (and sometimes concealed) feelings of passengers.

Using AOPA’s “Perception Analyzers”—small handheld radio devices that record audience “votes” and display them immediately, Boyer will first ask pilots, then non-pilots, some key questions, such as:

  • Have you ever been scared while flying?
  • Do you (does he or she) invent family trips just to fly?

Boyer will also present a series of in-flight or in-cockpit sounds (such as the stall warning or autopilot disconnect tone) and ask non-pilot passengers if they can identify them.

“In addition to being a fun evening, we plan to dramatize that pilots must brief passengers, put them at ease, and prepare them for a world that is familiar to us but foreign to them,” said Boyer.

“With a little thoughtful preparation, everyone will enjoy flying more,” said Boyer, “and family and friends will be more supportive of our flying.”

USPA’s meeting includes board, membership, and committee meetings, an FAA Wings safety seminar, plus sightseeing and shows in the nation’s newest music capital.

The event concludes Saturday night, October 16, with the USPA banquet and presentation by Boyer.
