AOPA is continuing its outreach program to enlist the nation's general aviation pilots in the guard against terrorism through the AOPA Airport Watch program. AOPA Vice President of Airports Bill Dunn met with pilots at Florida's Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (DTS) to explain the program and urge their participation.
"The 9/11 Commission report made it very clear that the terrorists want to strike again in the United States," said Dunn. "The report also said that our defense systems need to complicate the plans of the attackers by increasing their risk of discovery. That's where Airport Watch can contribute. If we continue to make it very clear that we are watching and reporting, we will complicate any terrorist attempt to use general aviation."
Dunn presented additional Airport Watch signs, posters, videos, decals, and brochures to the Destin pilots. AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer for DTS, James Link, coordinated the meeting.
