Concerns raised by AOPA and other opponents have softened but not killed an anti-airport bill currently making its way through the New Jersey legislature. Over AOPA's strong objections, the Assembly Transportation Committee approved the bill, AB-1937, after amending it to apply only to airports owned by the state. The bill would have prohibited any airport in New Jersey from expanding or extending its runways under certain circumstances. AOPA will be hard at work convincing lawmakers that the bill would hurt airports and the state's economy.
