AOPA has called on the Ohio General Assembly leadership to fix the inequitable aircraft registration fee system. Last year, AOPA lobbied fiercely against a provision included in the Ohio state budget that set the aircraft registration fee at a flat $100 for every airplane, regardless of size. Previously, the fee had been based on seats with a four-place aircraft paying $12 per year. The result was an 800-percent increase for small aircraft and a decrease for large jets. Recently, both the House and the Senate passed a bill without amendments to reduce the aircraft registration fee. AOPA will continue to fight this discriminatory arrangement.
