Persistence could pay off for Texas airport bill

A bill before the Texas legislature would allow the state, counties, and cities to create airport authorities to manage airports. This means that small communities could work together to buy or build an airport that they likely could not afford to do individually. AOPA Southwest Regional Representative Shelly Lesikar deZevallos and AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer Dave Marshall of San Antonio testified in support of Senate Bill 1406 this week before the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee. The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Jeff Wentworth, received a unanimous vote from the committee and now moves to the full Senate. Last session, a similar bill that he sponsored passed through the legislature but was vetoed by the governor. AOPA will continue to work with the Texas aviation community on passage of the bill.
