9/11 reimbursement policy released

The Department of Transportation has released a final rule for those seeking financial reimbursements related to the airspace shutdown around the nation's capital during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. While it's a step in the right direction, AOPA, in its comments to the original proposal, asked the federal government to compensate airports and businesses for lost revenues because of the Washington, D.C., Air Defense Identification Zone. Operators at the five following landing facilities are eligible for the 9/11 reimbursements: Washington Executive/Hyde Field, College Park Airport, Potomac Airfield, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and the South Capitol Street Heliport. The application deadline for reimbursements is July 8. Read the document.
