Pilots need to tell FAA what tracon services they want

Want to make sure you don’t lose access to any air traffic control services if the West Palm Beach Tracon is consolidated into the Miami facility? Tell the FAA what services are important. During the National Air Traffic Controller’s (NATCA’s) 2008 Communicating for Safety Conference this week, AOPA talked to NATCA officials about recent tracon consolidations. “Basically, pilots need to be proactive,” said Melissa Rudinger, AOPA vice president of regulatory affairs. “Pilots who use the system can tell the FAA exactly what services they need and what impact consolidating a tracon would have on their flight safety.” Pilots will have the opportunity to do this at the FAA’s public forum at 7 p.m. on April 10 at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport Hotel at Palm Beach International. AOPA also will be attending.
