AOPA helps guide Class B changes for Dallas

Air traffic is on the rise, but airspace hasn’t changed to reflect that growth, and traffic is spilling out of Class B airspace in Dallas. That has prompted the FAA to propose expanding the airspace around Dallas-Fort Worth International and Dallas Love to contain approaching traffic. AOPA, along with the airlines and corporate carriers, has been part of an ad hoc committee developing recommendations to help the FAA redesign the airspace. “We needed to be sure that changes to the Class B would have a minimal impact on general aviation aircraft traversing the area,” explained Pete Lehmann, AOPA manager of air traffic services. The FAA will now review the committee recommendations and hold public meetings to present the proposed airspace. AOPA will keep members informed about those meetings as they are scheduled.
