Pilot views needed on rural airport lease rates
Responding to previous concerns expressed by AOPA and the aviation community over the impact high energy and fuel prices are having on aviation, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has temporarily suspended a lease-rate increase that was implemented across Alaska’s rural airport system in March. The department has drafted proposed regulations that limit rate increases. Public hearings will take place in 11 communities between Oct. 8 and 22. AOPA had encouraged the department to seek public input, and pilots should take advantage of these meetings to evaluate the proposed changes and provide comments. Find out when a meeting will be in your area. Written comments will be accepted through Nov. 4.
