Oklahoma group hears of AOPA efforts

Oklahoma Airport Operators Association members recently heard a review of AOPA advocacy efforts from Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president for local airport advocacy. Dunn traveled to Oklahoma to attend the silver anniversary meeting of the group. The group’s members include airport operators, managers, and staff of airports throughout the state who serve general aviation and airline operations.

Nearly 175 people heard Dunn describe some of the more recent fights AOPA has entered on behalf of airports including the Biddeford, Maine, ballot measure to close the airport. Dunn emphasized AOPA’s new “GA Serves America” campaign aimed at showing the value GA provides to the nation. New taxes and restrictions proposed in Washington, D.C., threaten the 1.2 million jobs that GA provides in serving the communities and helping keep the economy strong.

Dunn told the group that, “Preserving our airport system is a partnership between all the key stakeholders. We must work together to show the value and importance of general aviation as a key part of our national transportation system.”
