The FAA has published a notice of proposed rulemaking to amend the boundaries of the Class C airspace around Palm Beach International Airport in Florida by raising the Class C floor above Palm Beach County Park Airport from 1,200 feet msl to 1,600 feet msl.
The FAA said that raising the Class C floor would enhance safety by providing additional clearance between rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft entering the traffic pattern at the satellite airport located south of Palm Beach International.
The change would allow fixed-wing aircraft entering the airport’s traffic pattern to safely overfly the existing helicopter patterns, and also allow higher altitudes for helicopter training, the FAA said. The proposed amendment also would include a minor correction to the airport’s geographic coordinates to reflect the current information in the FAA’s aeronautical database.
AOPA is reviewing the proposal and will submit formal comments to the FAA.
