High School Curriculum

The AOPA Foundation High School Aviation Initiative offers a free four-year, six-course, two-pathway (pilot and UAS pilot) High School Aviation STEM Curriculum to high schools across the United States. About 500 teachers in 400 schools in 43 states use the Curriculum to prepare a diverse set (50% students of color, 22% female students) of 15,000 students for careers as manned pilots, drone pilots, and other aviation STEM professionals.

Schools may opt to teach one, some, or all of the six courses in the Curriculum based on their program’s needs. Schools may also change which courses they offer each school year.

The AOPA Foundation provides curriculum access, video-based teacher initial professional development free of charge, thanks to the generous donations to the AOPA Foundation. Initial and ongoing teacher and program support are also free of charge.

Course outlines and sample lesson plans are available on the Curriculum webpage, part of the AOPA Foundation You Can Fly High School Initiative website. Additional information about the AOPA Foundation High School Initiative and Aviation STEM Curriculum is available at this link.

The High School Initiative stands ready to support schools and districts that seek to implement our world-class STEM.org Reviewed, FREE High School Aviation STEM Curriculum.
