AOPA is looking for a copy editor to join its award-winning media team. The copy editor will contribute to the clarity, professionalism, and accuracy of AOPA’s print and online content by proofreading documents and reviewing copy for errors and inconsistencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail and familiarity with aviation.
Format text upon receipt of documents and edit for style, grammar, and clarity.
Check manuscripts for factual errors.
Review articles in layout for errors and inconsistencies.
Review and enter editorial changes from proofs.
Copyedit web articles within a content management system.
Maintain and update AOPA’s stylebook.
Bachelor’s degree —in journalism, English, or equivalent related experience.
Proficiency in AP and Chicago style and knowledge of standard proofreading marks.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign. Familiarity with online content management systems.
Ability to work in a Mac environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time, and meet deadlines.
Ability to collaborate within a team environment.
Ability to transition between magazine and news styles for print and online media.
Aviation-related experience or demonstrated interest in the field—pilot certificate a plus.
