Genesys Autopilot Support for Adrian Eichhorn

What do you do when you are on your solo around-the-world flight and the autopilot in your Bonanza quits working in Hawaii? You do what globetrotting pilot Adrian Eichhorn did – you call S-TEC’s Product Support Group in Mineral Wells, Texas for help.

At this past AirVenture I had the pleasure of finally meeting Adrian Eichhorn. If you haven’t read about him, he recently rebuilt his vintage single-engine P35 Bonanza and completed a 23,014 nm around the world flight. Adrian stopped by our booth to personally thank everyone at Genesys/S-TEC for stepping up to help him safely finish this incredible adventure. What exactly did we do?

The short version is, as he was leaving the Marshall Islands on a 15-hour leg to Honolulu, his S-TEC System 30 autopilot wouldn’t “wake up.” Of course he tried everything, but no joy. So he hand-flew the trip, which wasn’t a big deal until he got into the final nighttime hours. That’s when he really missed his autopilot.

After landing in Honolulu, Adrian started making some calls looking for an avionics shop. “I certainly didn’t want to fly my longest over-water leg (17 hours) to Oakland, California without a critical aircraft component like an autopilot,” he said.

“The problem turned out to be the controller. I called S-TEC in Mineral Wells and explained my situation. My System 30 is old and long out of any warranty,” Adrian said. “Anyway, what they did was amazing: They took a brand-new controller off the shelf, configured it to my specific needs and sent it overnight to Hawaii. It worked perfectly.”

“Needless to say, everyone at S-TEC went out of their way to help me and didn’t charge me a dime for any of it!” he said. “My thanks goes to everyone at Genesys/S-TEC for making great products and for being there when I needed them most.”

As you can guess, Adrian’s story was very gratifying to hear. While we can’t send everyone a “loaner” controller, Genesys Aerosystems and our dealers try very hard to live up to our corporate tagline every day: “Precise Performance. Proven Expertise. Personalized Attention.”

If you’re planning an around the world flight or just a weekend cross-county trip, there’s an S-TEC autopilot for your needs.
