Show your Valentine your second love, aviation

If you love your Valentine as much as you love aviation, then take them on an aviation journey this Valentine’s Day!

It’s February ladies and gentlemen, which means Valentine’s Day. The day some of us at AOPA dread and others embrace fully with heart-shaped candy and pink sweaters.

It is the time of year where love fills the air. Love lingers over all hypnotically urging those in a relationship to take the traditional celebration route—dinner in a crowded restaurant followed by a movie and over-priced theater desserts (Sour Patch Kids and Skittles).

As pilots, it is our time to take back the crisp February, love-filled air. We can leave the love in it, of course, because let’s be honest, love is magical and exciting. But instead of opting for the timeless, yet overrated Valentine’s Day celebration options, we here at AOPA think you should show your loved one (if you have already, go ahead and remind them of), your second love, aviation.

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3. Plan it. Execute it. Enjoy it. Plan to fly your special someone somewhere close for a romantic and easy picnic.

First, make and pack your breakfast, lunch or dinner (hack: since Valentine’s Day is on a Friday, schedule your celebrations for Saturday the 15th. I promise it will still be romantic). We recommend using AOPA’s carry-all tote bag for easy transportation of all your yummy goodies plus any other fun stuff you plan to bring like games or puzzles. Oh, and don’t forget to bring something to sit on, if needed.

Then, fly that special someone to your favorite local spot. It doesn’t have to be anywhere crazy; the fun is in the flight and the love is with the one sitting next to you in the cockpit.

Finally, arrive at your desired destination, a close-by park or an awesome local airport, and crack into your delicious, packed spread. Enjoy the moment and bask in the love. And be sure to tell the person you took how much you appreciate their company and how grateful you are that you get to share your passion with them.
