FAA cuts costs of training, proficiency |
Instrument and sport pilots will see big benefits from changes in training rules published by the FAA on June 27. The Part 61 overhaul will allow instrument-rated pilots who use advanced aviation training devices to satisfy flight experience requirements to enjoy six months of currency rather than two. Sport pilots will be allowed to credit their flight experience toward higher certificates and ratings. The final rule takes effect July 27, with all changes to be implemented by Dec. 24. TSA’s Alien Flight Student Program gets a pat-down |
AOPA expressed concerns with the Transportation Security Administration’s Alien Flight Student Program in a June 12 letter to TSA Administrator David Pekoske. FAA releases policy for eliminating circling approaches |
The FAA has released the policy it will use when selecting circling instrument approach procedures for cancellation as the transition of the National Airspace System to satellite-based navigation continues. The final policy takes effect July 30. READ MORE › |
Envoy, ATP ink training, flow-through deal |
American Airlines’ wholly owned subsidiary Envoy Air announced a partnership with ATP Flight School to expand the carrier’s pilot cadet program that could eventually land students a full-time position with American Airlines. The deal calls for nine months of training before ATP graduates are guaranteed a flight instructor position that allows them to build time and experience to meet airline pilot hiring minimums.
