Be a smarter pilot with one of AOPA’s fly-in workshops
Come to one of AOPA’s low-cost, in-depth workshops at our Fly-Ins this year and you can leave with an endorsement in your logbook. You can learn about mountain flying, aircraft maintenance for owners, IFR for beginners and advanced pilots, VFR advanced and long cross-country flying, introduction to formation flying, and emergency upset recovery. The in-depth learning experiences will be offered in two, three-hour sessions on Friday and Saturday of each fly-in. Our first event takes place May 10 through 11 at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK). Then it’s out west to Livermore, California, on June 21 through 22, at Livermore Municipal Airport (LVK). We wrap up 2019 in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on September 13 through 14 at Tullahoma Municipal Airport (THA). See the website to register and for more information.

Colorado flight school’s ‘office dogs’ get spotlight
Duke and Dwight, the office dogs of Leading Edge Flight School in Loveland, Colorado, are the official morale keepers of the flight school. Duke is a 15-year-old black Labrador retriever and Dwight is a 3-month-old golden retriever. Carlson Chase, owner of the flight school, says the dogs help to communicate a laid-back environment, according to the Coloradoan. And, of course, the dogs appear on the flight school’s Instagram account (@leflighttraining).

MARKETING
Adventure time
Pilots know flying is adventurous, but how well do we communicate that to the general public? Greg Brown describes an adventure flying syllabus that adds fun to the training to keep clients motivated and enthused—and could bring you additional revenue. READ MORE ›
QUICK TIP
Airplanes only earn revenue if they fly. Here’s a back-up plan for clients who cancel lessons or rentals: Keep a list of customer who might be available to fly on short notice. Encourage your flight instructors to find customers who can fly solo or dual when someone else cancels.
SAFETY
Skirt the storm or test the tempest?
It’s that time of year—when thunderstorms brew around much of the nation. Point your customers to a new challenge from the AOPA Air Safety Institute. The Thunderstorm Challenge puts you in the left seat of a Cessna 172 on a VFR cross-country flight from New Jersey to Pennsylvania, and you deal with pop-up thunderstorms, deteriorating weather, and fuel concerns. The course qualifies for AOPA Accident Forgiveness and FAA WINGS. Find it online.
