Dickson says SFAR extensions to continue as needed
The FAA is working to provide predictability without degrading safety as it shapes the special rules that are helping keep general and business aviation operating during the coronavirus pandemic, FAA Administrator Steve Dickson said August 4. He said the FAA chief counsel's office has worked nearly a 24/7 schedule including weekends to address 22 regulatory areas in which the SFAR has restored some order to a chaotic state of affairs. Class of 2020 Mich. high school seniors earn pilot certificates
More than a dozen West Michigan Aviation Academy graduates celebrated the STEM-oriented high school's tenth anniversary by earning a private pilot certificate despite flight training challenges surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. The students could not complete their checkrides before graduation, but they worked with their flight instructors to complete their training requirements in Grand Rapids, Michigan. READ MORE ›

AOPA, NBAA voice serious concerns over pilot records database proposal
AOPA, in a joint letter with the National Business Aviation Association, wrote to FAA Administrator Steve Dickson regarding the Pilot Records Database (PRD) proposal and the negative impact it would have on general aviation pilots. As currently drafted, the proposed rule would place burdensome and costly requirements on general aviation, with little to no safety benefit. READ MORE ›
Pandemic prompts Kentucky pilot to open flight school
Justin Tidwell was poised to start a new job as a corporate pilot, but then came the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions. He decided to use the time to open a new flight school, Flywell Aviation, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Flywell offers ratings from private through CFI and has a Cessna 172M and an American Champion Decathlon for tailwheel endorsements and spin and upset training. The flight school is located at Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport.
