Texas Aircraft pitches basic Colt S-LSA
Flight schools asked for an affordable, factory-built light sport aircraft with Garmin in the panel and an all-metal airframe. Texas Aircraft Manufacturing responded. The entry-level Colt, priced at $139,000, has a single Garmin G3X display on the left side of the panel and steam gauges on the right, toe brakes only on the left pedals, and an all-white paint scheme. FAA requires Piper wing inspections
Wing spar corrosion in a hard-to-reach area of certain Piper PA–28 and PA–32 models could cause a fatal failure, and the FAA requires inspections by borescope, access panel installation, wing removal, or other approved means within 12 months or 100 hours. The airworthiness directive issued in November has an effective date of December 28. READ MORE ›
ATC zero events in resurgence
Outbreaks of COVID-19 in some regions affected a growing number of air traffic control facilities on November 25. As operational impacts spread, AOPA advised members to be aware of the potential for “ATC zero” events—situations where an air traffic control facility goes offline—and check the FAA website for the most current available information. Frasca International is taking a page out of its history books for a training device “road show” that provides students with the opportunity to try out a reconfigurable flight simulator during an immersive experience that also highlights potential aviation careers.
