AOPA publishes COVID-19 flight ops guide |
As states begin to open back up during the coronavirus pandemic, AOPA has published a guide for flight schools, FBOs, flying clubs, and other organizations to recover and sustain operations. The guide discusses sanitation practices, sequential operations, and monitoring risks going forward, and it includes numerous resources on state-by-state COVID rules. It is available at AOPA Online.

'Brace for a slowdown' |
University of North Dakota aerospace students were advised to "brace for a slowdown" in airline industry hiring but to be poised for a recovery that could occur “dramatically” once the coronavirus pandemic has passed. The information was delivered during an online Aviation Industry Speaker Series forum created by UND aerospace faculty that allowed them to communicate directly with aviation students facing withering job prospects during the pandemic.

EAA AirVenture canceled |
EAA AirVenture officials held out hope as long as possible of keeping the popular summer airshow on schedule but on May 1 ended up canceling the event for 2020. EAA staff members are still under stay-at-home orders in Wisconsin through May 26, preventing them from working with suppliers to begin setting up the show’s infrastructure at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh and printing essentials like wristbands, programs, and such.

Update: Special rule sets limited conditions, extensions during pandemic |
The FAA issued a special federal aviation regulation (SFAR) that provides blanket extensions of medical certificates and airman knowledge tests that would have expired between March 1 and May 31 to all pilots regardless of the type of their flying. The SFAR also provides flight review and instrument currency extensions under very limited circumstances to get pilots back in the air to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
