FAA prosecutors pursuing CFIs providing training for 'free' |
The FAA issued a new directive effective July 12 that "provides notification on flight training for compensation in certain aircraft," specifying it applies to receiving and providing instruction in limited, primary, and experimental category aircraft. Meanwhile, in court proceedings, the FAA is prosecuting flight instructors who volunteered their time instructing in limited category aircraft and didn’t receive a penny for doing so, arguing the volunteers had received compensation.

AOPA blasts FAA flight training directive |
AOPA is asking the FAA to immediately withdraw or delay its directive governing flight training for compensation in certain categories of aircraft. AOPA President Mark Baker said the rule will impose nightmarish administrative requirements on thousands of aircraft owners, pilots, and flight instructors, and it will simply overwhelm the FAA and create even more confusion.

FAA registry's digital upgrade sets October launch |
Web-based services will begin to replace many current processes and systems for registering U.S. aircraft and certifying airmen in the FAA's civil aviation registry. The upgrade, set to take effect in October, is the product of an effort known as the Civil Aviation Registry Electronic Services Initiative, mandated by the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018.
