ATP certificate issuance dropped sharply in 2020
Designated pilot examiners issued 3,180 airline transport pilot certificates in 2020, down from 6,690 in 2019, the National Flight Instructors Association of North America reported March 23. The COVID-19 pandemic was largely to blame in the sharp drop, DPE Jason Blair said in his analysis. However, other certificates and ratings did not see such a sharp drop, indicating that training at these levels continued somewhat normally during the same time period, Blair said.
Florida flight school to expand fleet, facilities
Paragon Flight Training at Page Field (FMY) in Fort Myers, Florida, recently signed an agreement with the Lee County Port Authority that will enable the flight school to expand its fleet and operations. According to a report in the Business Observer, the flight school intends to grow its fleet from 15 aircraft to an estimated 45 to 55 within five years. Paragon also plans to purchase and renovate a 14,000-square-foot hangar that will be used as a maintenance hub for the fleet. Paragon Flight Training was named 2014 Best Flight School in the AOPA Flight Training Excellence Awards for that year.
