Leonardo unveils new U.S. flight training academy
Leonardo, in a virtual ceremony on April 29, unveiled its latest training facility in Philadelphia, the first in the United States. It joins factory training facilities in Italy, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. Initial capabilities will be for initial and recurrent pilot training in the AW139, AW169, and the forthcoming tiltrotor, the AW609. Maintenance training will also be offered in AW139, AW119, and AW609. READ MORE ›
ATP opens Dallas training center
ATP Flight School has opened a pilot training center at the Arlington Municipal Airport (GKY) in Arlington, Texas. The 13,875-square-foot facility includes an advanced simulator bay containing multiple flight training devices, an FAA Certified Level 6 Cessna 172 FTD, and a fleet of Piper Seminoles and new Garmin G1000-equipped Cessna 172s.
Pennsylvania flight school celebrates opening
Fundamentals Flight Training, a new flight school based at Erie International/Tom Ridge Field (ERI) in Erie, Pennsylvania, hosted an open house May 8. Co-owners James Moelk and David Benson are behind the startup; Benson will provide most of the flight instruction in the school's Cessna 152. The Part 61 school offers training for the private and commercial certificates and instrument rating.

Flight reviews are a requirement, but they don't have to be routine. CubFlying.com, at Auburn Municipal Airport (S50) in Auburn, Washington, advertises flight reviews in tailwheel aircraft to challenge clients to try a new experience. The flight school's website emphasizes that pilots don't need a tailwheel endorsement to receive a flight review, and stresses the "romance of tailwheel flying and grass runways."
