Denver airport chief nominated to lead FAA |
The White House confirmed on July 6 that Denver International Airport (KDEN) CEO Phillip A. Washington will be nominated to become the next FAA administrator. Washington brings relatively little aviation experience to the job. He served roughly a year in the top job at Denver International, preceded by executive roles in Denver's regional transit district, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Washington is a U.S. Army veteran who led the Biden administration's transportation transition.

Elixir to debut at AirVenture |
French manufacturer Elixir Aircraft will display its new piston single at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin. The company is focusing on the North American market and its plans include a U.S.-based assembly and demonstration site and a dedicated sales and marketing team. The Elixir is a two-seater designed as a trainer as well as a recreational airplane. It can be ordered with a 100-horsepower Rotax 912iS engine, which produces a cruise speed of 125 KTAS, or a 140-hp, turbocharged Rotax 915iS that will yield a 150-KTAS cruise at 75-percent power. The company lists the new Elixir at 282,000 Euros.

NAFI plans industrywide conference for flight instructors |
The National Association of Flight Instructors will host its first industrywide flight instructor summit in October. The NAFI Summit: Flight Instructor Excellence will host current and prospective certificated flight instructors, aviation leaders, industry advocates, government representatives. The NAFI Summit will bring stakeholders in the flight instruction community to share best practices, relevant business skills, instructional techniques, and networking opportunities. There will be keynote speakers addressing the vital role of flight instructors, with an emphasis on continuous improvement on safety and customer service. The date and location of the event are to be determined.

Signature Aviation buys TAC Air |
The largest FBO chain in the world just grew by 14 locations, with TAC Air facilities in Arkansas, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah now rebranded Signature Flight Support. The new owner announced Signature will honor existing TAC Air customer agreements during a "transition period," and is also "welcoming TAC Air team members employed throughout its FBOs."

AOPA Foundation awards more than 130 flight training scholarships |
The AOPA Foundation has awarded more than 130 flight training scholarships totaling nearly $1.2 million. the scholarships will help high school students and teachers, aspiring pilots, pilots seeking advanced ratings, and those pursuing aviation maintenance or other aerospace careers to reach their goals. The 2022 awards include the largest group of recipients and the most scholarship funds distributed to date.
