AOPA comments on proposed drug testing changes
AOPA submitted comments in response to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s proposed changes to its drug testing program, including the use of oral fluid samples (saliva test) as an alternative to urine testing. While the change continues to uphold the safety goals of the program, AOPA cautioned the agency to keep privacy top of mind in its testing protocols. READ MORE ›
Women's flight training camp heads to Arlington, Washington, in 2022
Girls in Flight Training (GIFT) Academy, a week of immersive, intensive flight training for women, will bring its program to the West Coast in 2022, along with sessions in Wisconsin and Texas. The nonprofit GIFT Academy, launched by CFI Mary Latimer, aims to help women overcome obstacles in flight training by providing immersive, stage-specific instruction and lots of camaraderie, as well as guest speakers and field trips. Diamond reports electric progress
In a press conference at Aero Friedrichshafen in April, Diamond Aircraft dropped strong hints about battery advances that will extend the endurance of its electric eDA40 single and reduce charge time, announced a forthcoming United States tour with the DA50 RG, and reported on deliveries increasing as the coronavirus pandemic subsides. Flight school opens in North Carolina
Elite Flight Academy has opened its doors at Davidson County Airport (EXX) in Lexington, North Carolina. The flight school said it has enrolled 20 students with the hopes of training hundreds more. The fleet includes a Piper Pilot 100i, a Piper Cherokee 180, and a Citabria. The school offers private through commercial training as well as aerobatics, tailwheel endorsements, and upset recovery.
Florida flight school adds satellite location
Epic Flight Academy, based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, has opened a satellite location in Ocala at Ocala International Airport (OCF). Epic, founded in 1999, offers private through airline transport pilot training in Cessna 172s and Piper Seminoles. Epic also offers an accelerated program, Epic Anywhere, in which instructors and aircraft will travel to a student’s home airport in any of the 48 contiguous states to work on a certificate or rating.
