Electric aircraft developer Bye Aerospace announced January 25 that it received FAA approval of the specific methods and measures that the agency will apply to certify the two-seat eFlyer 2, positioning it to be the first all-electric aircraft to achieve this landmark status. The eFlyer 2 is designed to be powered by a 150-horsepower air-cooled 110kW motor, with three hours of range at 73 knots. Bye Aerospace first applied for the eFlyer 2 Type Certificate in 2018, and the FAA approved a previous certification basis paper in 2020. READ MORE ›

Earn financial incentives with the AOPA Flight Training Advantage program
AOPA’s Flight Training Advantage (AFTA) now has 1,545 flight schools enrolled. These flight schools have discovered that AOPA's web portal and iPad-based training program is making the process of flight training more effective for students, flight instructors—and flight schools, too. And now AFTA offers financial incentives for participating flight schools. They can receive $250 after three students have each logged at least three lessons within the program, or receive $50 for each student who completes an initial pilot certificate using AFTA. The program is free for flight schools and instructors. Find out more information or sign up online.

Cyberattacks on small businesses are projected to increase in 2023, according to a forecast published in Forbes. "[Small businesses] already make up over 41 percent of data breaches, but as large enterprises spend more on cybersecurity and adopt more robust frameworks, attackers will increasingly turn their attention to small businesses," said Amir Tarighat, co-founder and chief executive officer of Agency, a cybersecurity firm. He said cybersecurity will also be a major differentiating factor in sales and partnerships for small businesses, as organizations will want to work with vendors that have major security and compliance programs.

ASI releases 'Pilot Short Story: Indent the Detent'
It was the summer of 2018, and Cayla Hunt was a 130-hour private pilot of about seven months. She was sitting in the front seat of a Beechcraft T–34 Mentor on the way to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the annual pilgrimage to EAA AirVenture. Cayla turned her attention toward the fuel selector. She moved the switch from the left to the right tank, lining up the handle with the placard. The engine went from purring to a few gurgles and then a deafening silence. Find out what happened next in the latest installment of the Pilot Short Story series, from the AOPA Air Safety Institute.
