AOPA Air Safety Institute releases 'Night Flying Accident Analysis' report
A new report from the AOPA Air Safety Institute examines night flying accidents that occurred between 2017 through 2021. Although night accidents accounted for just 7 percent of all fixed wing GA accidents during that period, they accounted for 16 percent of all fatal GA accidents. ASI has several recommendations in the report, such as: Pilots should get night-specific training that goes beyond proficiency, improve stick-and-rudder skills with an emphasis on stall awareness and prevention, and install synthetic vision heads up displays and angle of attack indicators.
