The Automation Weekend Part III: “Mastering Your Autopilot” with Peter King The Automation Weekend Part III: “Mastering Your Autopilot” with Peter King

The Automation Weekend Part III: “Mastering Your Autopilot” with Peter King A Ventura County 99s Pilot Proficiency Class Do you have a name for your autopilot (like “George”), or is it a dark box in your panel that you hope never accidentally to turn on. As aircraft range increases allowing flights of many hours, the constant attention of a pilot in order to fly safely leads to serious fatigue. An autopilot is designed to perform some of the tasks of the pilot in order to reduce workload and fatigue—but you have to know how to work it and you have to trust it. This course takes a unique approach to teaching the pilot how to master his or her autopilot. By opening the hood and examining how the underlying logic of a number of modern autopilots work (including S-Tec, King KAP and KFC, and the Garmin GFC 700), this course will forever answer the question, “Why did it do that?” In addition, this course will provide a basic strategy and specific techniques for mastering your autopilot.
