About the course Flying in the mountains is very challenging, particularly for general aviation aircraft. Aircraft performance, mountain weather phenomena, and elevated density altitudes all present their challenges. To safely fly in the mountains, a solid mountain flying ground school is a prerequisite. The ground school is very comprehensive. It covers: Density altitude Mountain weather Mountain hazards High altitude operations Map reading skills refresher This course is designed to be the first part of a full Mountain Flying Course. The second part is a flight in an aircraft through the mountains to Granby, Glenwood Springs, Leadville and back to Denver. What to Bring: Pilot Operating Handbook for your aircraft Denver sectional AFD for Colorado The mountain flight will be without GPS, using basic pilotage and dead reckoning skills. Cost of the course is $160 (includes course binder & lunch).
