5th World Congress on Virology5th World Congress on Virology

Virology is the study of viruses – submicroscopic, parasitic particles of genetic material contained in a protein coat and virus-like agents. Virology is often considered a part of microbiology or of pathology. Viruses and viral diseases have been at the centers of science, agriculture, and medicine for millennia and some of our greatest challenges and triumphs have involved virology. Virology 2015 addresses and discuss on the recent advancements and technologies being used and developed for the research on viruses. The ability of HIV to mutate and reproduce itself in the presence of antiretroviral drugs is called HIV drug resistance (HIVDR). The consequences of HIVDR include treatment failure, need to start more costly second- and third- line treatments, increased health costs associated with these, spread of drug resistant HIV, and need to develop new anti-HIV drugs. WHO, and its partner organizations and experts of HIV ResNet group have developed a Global strategy for the surveillance and monitoring of HIV drug resistance. The strategy generates data on the emergence and transmission of HIVDR and equips countries with information to select first and second line antiretroviral therapyregimens.
