Marianna Airport Armed Forces Day Fly InMarianna Airport Armed Forces Day Fly In

Plans are being finalized for the fifth annual Armed Forces Day Celebration with an open house and fly-in, Saturday, May 16th. The event will start with a pancake and sausage breakfast at 8 AM for pilots and the gates will open for the general public at 9. Again this year members of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will be sponsoring the rides to those ages 8-17 as part of the Young Eagles program. These flights are offered free of charge and will be made available through the generosity of EAA member volunteers from the Dothan and Enterprise, Alabama chapters. Parents must sign up for the flights and information forms are available from Main Street Marianna, Jackson County Tourist Development Council or at the Airport. Rides will be offered by Friends of Army Aviation in both the UH-1D Huey helicoptor for $60 per person, and the AH-1 Cobra, Army attack helicopter for $300. There will also be great food along with arts, crafts, rides and other activities for kids of all ages. On Friday night there will be an FAA approved training program for pilots as well as a reunion for former Graham Air Base personnel and pilots who trained at the base. Information on these activities is available on the Marianna Municipal website at http://www.cityofmarianna.com/. Click on “Government”, then “Department”, “Airport”.
