Dinner with a Slice of History Casey Grant Stars in the SkyDinner with a Slice of History Casey Grant Stars in the Sky

October 2 - Dinner with a Slice of History - Casey Grant: Stars in the Sky Stories of the first African American Flight Attendants When most young white stewardesses were basking in the glamour of being airline hostesses, young black stewardesses were just trying how to figure out where to spend the night between flights, or how to respond to a pilot who said, “I don’t want your kind in my cockpit.” Grant hails from a military family; her parents taught her the love of flying and seeing the world at a young age. Becoming a flight attendant was a natural progression for her, although she had no idea how much struggle she would face in the early days. For Casey Grant, one of the first black stewardesses for Delta Air Lines, the struggle to overcome racial barriers while fulfilling her in-flight duties was real. A Delta retiree after thirty-five years, Grant, in her newly released Stars in the Sky, shares compelling stories of the early days when race was as much an issue at 30,000 feet as it was on the ground in Selma or any other America city. Join us as Casey shares her stories of perseverance and encouragement and signs copies of her book. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm with the presentation to follow. Tickets are $15 non-members, $13 members. Please RSVP soon- seats are limited! Event flyer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz6_ynzCQ4bZQjBlMnN4bjg1LUxFSW9kV0lHNWN5V2E0MDBz/view
