A key component of the weekend is the Biplane Rides for Scholarships. The event starts when the biplane arrives on Friday morning at 11:00 to offer sightseeing rides.
Last year’s Scholarship Flights were a rousing success, with the bright red Waco biplane picking up new passengers as soon as it landed, and pilot Steve Koch fighting to grab himself a sandwich ... “on the fly.” Hungry or not, Mr. Koch has graciously agreed to bring his beautiful Waco aircraft back for another chance at open-air sightseeing over beautiful Bardstown, KY.
The Waco aircraft is owned and operated by Classic Biplane Tours based at Bowman Field in Louisville. It is available there most of the year, weather permitting, for tours over the Ohio River and the city of Louisville.
Flying over historic Bardstown, in Nelson county, just as the leaves are beginning to turn, has a beauty all its own. Mr. Koch dons his goggles to take two passengers (adults or children) on a historical experience unlike any other. Farms, neighborhoods, schools, the courthouse circle, St. Joseph Cathedral and other landmarks are visible from a birds-eye point of view.
Tickets for the flights are available at the airfield starting at 10:30 am on Friday, 9:00 am on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $90 per person for a 15 minute flight (adult or child). Two passengers are needed per flight. Call 502-303-3944 for more information.
