Manassas Regional Airport (HEF)

With over 400 based aircraft and over 85,000 annual aircraft operations, Manassas Regional Airport is the busiest General Aviation (GA) Airport in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since its opening in 1932, the Manassas Regional Airport has been a key contributor to the local economy. In 2017, an economic impact study was conducted; and it was determined that the airport contributed more than $375 million to its local economy, 1,351 jobs and wages of $117,438,000. In 2012, Manassas Regional Airport was identified as one of 84 National General Aviation (GA) airports by the FAA.

What to expect

To connect pilots and aircraft owners with the aviation industry’s vast array of products, services, aircraft, and equipment, AOPA will offer two “AOPA Aviator Showcase” events. These events will be one-day gatherings with an exhibit hall, an aircraft sales display, and technology related seminars. Attendees will meet with industry leaders in avionics and cockpit technology, flight planning and weather resources, and aircraft manufacturing. You’ll find anything you could ever want for your airplane: from gadgets and gear to oil and anti-corrosives; lights, batteries, props, engines, flight bags, all the way to specific parts you need for your aircraft and more. Local services like paint shops, avionic shops, aircraft detailing will be there to help you improve your aircraft. Want to buy an airplane? Meet with aircraft financiers, insurers, and aircraft manufacturers and dealers. Lunch will be available to purchase from local food trucks.

IMPORTANT PILOT NOTICE: The Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF) is situated within the Washington, D.C. Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA). For VFR operations into Manassas (and anywhere within 60nm of the DCA VOR), the FAA requires that pilots complete a brief online training course on operating within the SFRA. Click here to take this course. Once completing this training, operations into the SFRA should not be intimidating to most pilots. VFR operations require filing a special SFRA flight plan, contacting Potomac Approach Control (or Clearance Delivery prior to departure from KHEF) to receive a discreet transponder code, and follow ATC instructions to/from the airport. For IFR operations, this special course is not required.

AOPA takes seriously the safety of all of our guests and exhibitors. We will be employing several special initiatives to ensure the AOPA Aviator Showcase meets and exceeds CDC and government requirements at the time of the event. In addition to consulting with medical professionals to ascertain the most appropriate procedures and policies, we plan to provide a unique show layout that will allow for increased social distancing, appropriate face coverings and barriers, enhanced cleaning, etc. as recommended by medical professionals. We will also limit attendance (pre-registration required / no “walk-up” attendance permitted) to meet crowd-size limitations that may be in effect at the time of the event.

FAQs

Is this an AOPA Fly-In?

No, these events cater to those looking to buy or learn more about new products and services available within the general aviation market. They will be focused exclusively on exhibits, displays, and educational content related to aircraft ownership and operations. They will be smaller and more intimate than our traditional fly-ins, allowing for greater interaction and up-close engagement with the products, services, and equipment available to serious aviators.

What programming can I expect?

Aside from some time with on-site exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall and Aircraft Display, you’ll have the chance to attend seminars focused on aircraft ownership, products, and technology.

What's included with my ticket?

We’re fully anticipating crowd-size restrictions due to COVID-19, so the AOPA Aviator Showcase will be a ticketed event. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited, and no “walk-up” attendance will be permitted. Exhibitors will be offering exclusive show specials and other incentives only available to event guests. And since this is a limited-capacity event, you can expect higher-quality engagement with subject matter experts from the general aviation industry.
