Texas Pilot Alert: Rally to save Austin-Mueller May 24
AOPA is calling on Texas pilots to rally in Austin to demonstrate support for the “Wilson Bill” to save Austin’s downtown Robert Mueller Memorial Airport. The rally will begin at 10 a.m., May 24, on the front steps of the state capitol building.
The Wilson Bill (an amendment to SB 370 sponsored by state Representative Ron Wilson) would force Austin to sell Mueller Airport to the state of Texas and allow the state to continue operating the facility as an airport. The bill has passed both houses of the Texas legislature and is now being considered by a joint conference committee. Legislative insiders and AOPA say it is important to demonstrate to the conferees that there is strong support for maintaining Austin-Mueller airport.
AOPA has been battling for 10 years to maintain a general aviation reliever airport in Austin.
