Fuel concern reported in Van Nuys, California - Phillips statement

To Whom It May Concern:

Phillips received a concern from our aviation dealer, Million Air at Van Nuys, California, about possible particulate contamination of 100LL avgas. The concern came from a customer of Million Air and involved one aircraft. Phillips has examined samples of fuel from the fuel farm, refueler tank, and refueler nozzle discharge from Million Air in Van Nuys. In addition, Phillips has completed tests on fuel samples taken from the petroleum terminal that supplies Million Air.

All lab tests indicate that the fuel samples tested from the supply terminal are clean and acceptable for use in aircraft. Furthermore, the fuel samples tested from the refueler truck at Million Air in Van Nuys are clean and acceptable for use in aircraft. Some particulate matter was found in the fuel farm storage tank at Million Air; however, this fuel is filtered two additional times before delivery to aircraft. Microscopic examination of the particles revealed that these particles would normally be removed by the filtration system.

As a precaution, Million Air has cleaned their tanks and installed new filters throughout their 100LL avgas system.
