AOPA-supported Texas airport bill moves forward

An AOPA-supported bill to open a general aviation reliever airport in central Texas is moving forward in the Texas legislature. Last week, the House Transportation Committee reported out H.B.2520 with a recommendation that the full House approve the bill. The bill would require the state to establish a general aviation airport in central Texas. That area, which includes the capital city Austin, has been without adequate GA facilities since Austin-Mueller Airport and privately owned Austin Executive Airport were closed. Last month, the city of Pflugerville (just north of Austin) abandoned plans to build a new GA airport.
