Mike Collins has been named vice president of diversified products and editor of AOPA Flight Training magazine at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Collins joined AOPA in September 1994 as managing editor of AOPA Pilot and was later promoted to executive editor. In his new role, Collins will assume the responsibilities for editorial management of AOPA Flight Training, which is geared toward student pilots, new private pilots, and certificated flight instructors (CFIs).
He also manages all of AOPA's electronic-information product initiatives, including two versions of ePilot, data for AOPA's Airport Directory and downloadable eDirectory, as well as the AOPA Flight School Business newsletter.
AOPA has introduced several significant electronic products in the past two years, including the ePilots, which are weekly news summaries e-mailed to student pilots and AOPA members, online instrument approach procedures, and the Airport Directory via AOPA Online and on compact disc.
Collins will focus on enhancing these products, developing additional new products, and streamlining AOPA's development processes. He will continue to be the primary business contact with our major print and pre-press vendors.
Prior to joining AOPA, Collins helped launch a regional aviation newsmagazine, The Southern Aviator. Before that, he worked as photographer, photo editor, and editor for several newspapers.
He is a private pilot with an instrument rating.
