Pilots attending Sun 'n Fun April 6 through 13 in Lakeland, Florida, should plan on stopping by what will amount to an AOPA "annex." The exhibit in Building B, Booths 94 and 95, will be chock-full of AOPA staff, goods, and services.
Sun 'n Fun will be an ideal place to join AOPA, renew a membership, or sign up for Automatic Annual Renewal (AAR). Pilots who do any of the three at the booth will immediately receive a premium gift, choosing either the new AOPA green/khaki cap or an AOPA T-shirt with patriotic logo. Additionally, anyone joining, renewing, or selecting AAR will automatically be eligible (subject to contest rules) to win AOPA's Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes Waco to be awarded in 2004.
Aviation Services staff members will provide "guided tours" of AOPA Online as displayed on a large monitor at the booth. AOPA's "subject reports" from Aviation Services will be available for review, and pilots can place an order for reports to be mailed to them.
Steven W. Ells, AOPA Pilot associate editor, will conduct three "100LL fuel" forums. All are set for Tent 8: Monday at 10 a.m., Wednesday at 11 a.m., and Thursday at 11 a.m.
Brand-new AOPA Project Pilot information will debut at Sun 'n Fun. Project Pilot mentors dedicate time and expertise to help student pilots fulfill their goals of earning pilot wings. A new full-color brochure details what it means to be a mentor, how to get started, available resources from AOPA, how to find a student pilot, and more. A mentor/student-pilot enrollment form is included.
Student pilots may sign up at the AOPA booth for a free six-month AOPA membership, including a free six-month subscription to Flight Training magazine.
Information will be available regarding AOPA Expo 2002 in Palm Springs, California, October 24 through 26. (Get the jump on the excitement, and plan ahead to be in Palm Springs on October 23 for the Parade of Planes when more than 80 aircraft are set to taxi on city streets from the airport to the convention center's outdoor display area.)
Usual freebies at the Sun 'n Fun booth will include Pilot and Flight Training magazines, patriotic AOPA decals, Air Aides, member checklists, flight cards, and more. The Surprize Squad will cruise the show looking for folks wearing special stickers obtained at the booth, then randomly awarding AOPA goody bags. And there will be a daily drawing for an AOPA Zulu-Time watch (the recipient does not have to be present to win).
