AOPA continues fight to preserve Chicago's Meigs Field

The Honorable Richard M. Daley
Office of the Mayor
121 North LaSalle
Room 507
Chicago, IL 60602

Dear Mayor Daley:

On behalf of the more than 388,000 members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, 13,740 which reside in your state, congratulations on your re-election. We look forward to working with you and Governor-elect Blagojevich to ensure the continued growth and viability of aviation in Chicago and the state of Illinois.

We were obviously disappointed that the U.S. Congress did not approve the legislation for the expansion of O'Hare International Airport, nor establishing a new airport in Peotone, and did not support preserving the continued operation of Merrill C. Meigs Field. We continue to believe how vital the passage of federal legislation, recognizing and preserving the benefits that these improvements will have on the national air transportation system in Chicago.

It is my hope that you and the Governor-elect Blagojevich will continue to fight for this federal legislation. As you know, AOPA continues in its strong support for maintaining Meigs Field as a critical part of the aviation infrastructure serving Chicago that is beloved by U.S. pilots everywhere—we ask that you support it remaining open.

Sincerely,

Phil Boyer
