As the nation gears up for the annual Independence Day celebrations, AOPA reminds pilots that many of those celebrations may include airshows at local airports. And with the airshows may come temporary flight restrictions (TFRs).
Pilots should be especially careful to check notams over the holiday weekend. And anyone planning a cross-country trip and whose route of flight passes over or close to an airport would be well advised to call the local flight service station for that airport. TFRs for smaller airshows are often published as local notams. You have to ask specifically for local notams if you are getting a briefing from a flight service station outside the local area.
AOPA has checked with contacts at the FAA and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and determined that there are currently no plans for security-related TFRs over the holiday weekend, except for President Bush's trip to Dayton, Ohio, on the Fourth.
