AOPA ONLINE

Medical certification

More than 1,000 AOPA members call each month for information about pilot medicals. AOPA Online provides complete medical information that is just a click away ( www.aopa.org/members/ resources/medical.html). You'll find up-to-the-minute news stories related to medical issues such as mail delivery options to the FAA following the terrorist and anthrax attacks in 2001; a new policy that allows aviation medical examiners (AMEs) additional authority to reissue third class medical certificates; and tips for dealing with the backlog of applications for medical records at the FAA Aeromedical Certification Division. Links to information on FAR Part 67, medical subject reports, and TurboMedical®, AOPA's Web-based tool that helps pilots prepare to obtain their certificates, are all available on this site. In addition to a list of AMEs in the United States, the Web site also lists FAA-accepted medications (see " Answers for Pilots: What's OK?," page 32).

Celebrating the past, ensuring your future

The new AOPA membership card offers a glimpse of the past, present, and future. Pilots joining AOPA or renewing their membership in 2003 will receive a freshly designed membership card that features a collage reflecting the first 100 years of powered flight. The collage starts with the original Wright Flyer, moves to a Waco UPF-7 — similar to the Waco being offered in the 2002-2003 AOPA Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes — and then looks toward an airplane of tomorrow, a Cirrus SR22. The reverse of the card displays contact information for AOPA member services, including toll-free telephone numbers for the AOPA Pilot Information Center and various member services and programs.

For more information on AOPA's new membership card, telephone 800/USA-AOPA (872-2672).

Renter? You need the AOPA Insurance Agency

The AOPA Insurance Agency works hard to be the best in providing aviation insurance expertise. If you are a renter pilot, you need nonowned aircraft insurance from the AOPA Insurance Agency. Why?

  • The insurance coverage at most FBOs covers them, not you.
  • Even if the pilot has some coverage under the FBO, it doesn't necessarily protect the pilot from subrogation.
  • In the event of damage to the aircraft, the pilot could be responsible for at least the FBO's deductible amount, which could be as high as $5,000. Nonowned liability coverage is affordable and is worth the peace of mind no matter how often you fly.

The AOPA Insurance Agency offers renters coverage from an A++-rated insurance agency, and you benefit from the buying power of the largest light-aircraft insurance agency in the world. Contact an AOPA Insurance Agency representative at 800/622-2672. Information is also available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week ( www.aopaia.com).
