Monthly winners in AOPA's Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes win more than just a few hours in a Waco biplane like the one AOPA is giving away. They win a trip that can be customized so they get the most possible out of their Waco experience.
Take Tim McDougall, for example. He chose to take his high school-aged son, who is a student pilot, along. While McDougall flew in the Waco with Red Rock Biplane pilot Mike Potts, his son flew along with another instructor in a Cessna 172. They stopped at a nearby soaring school so the McDougalls could get their first taste of piloting a glider, then headed for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to tour the campus.
"My Waco experience was phenomenal," said McDougall. "This was something my son and I will never forget.
The grand prize in AOPA's Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes is a fully restored 1940 Waco UPF-7 biplane. Monthly winners receive not only an opportunity to fly in an aircraft like the sweepstakes plane, but also a beautiful leather bomber jacket with a Waco logo on the back and a plaque that includes a piece of the original fabric from the Sweepstakes aircraft to commemorate their trip.
