Since AOPA began posting instrument approach procedures (IAPs) in conjunction with AOPA's Airport Directory Online two years ago, members have downloaded more than 1.5 million approaches (individual procedure pages).

"This has obviously turned into a tremendously popular feature for our members," said Machteld Smith, director of AOPA's print and online airport directories. "And now that members can download more than one approach procedure at a time, it's become literally twice as popular."

The more than 12,400 charts available at AOPA's Airport Directory Online are exact electronic reproductions (.pdf files) of the U.S. Terminal Procedures Publications put out by the federal government and are valid for navigation during the date range listed. To facilitate downloading and retrieving frequently used procedures, members can download multiple procedures at one time and store links to the charts using the "My Procedures" capability. A full chart update takes place on every 56-day FAA chart revision cycle. Changed procedures are updated every 28 days.

AOPA's Airport Directory is a key feature of AOPA Online, allowing members to access the most recent airport information. The print version of the directory is published every two years; data in the online version is updated every business day.

"AOPA Online has really become the site for general aviation pilots to visit," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "From flight planning to taxi diagrams to approach charts to places to grab that hundred-dollar hamburger, the AOPA Web site provides true one-stop shopping for members preparing for a flight."
